Amber Mountain National Park

After breakfast, transfer to Amber Mountain National Park on guided walks. The park owes its name to the amber-coloured resin that flows from its trees and is used by Malagasy people for medicinal purposes. It enjoys a unique micro-climate, favorable for a beautiful humid forest and highlands. Spend the day hiking the dense rainforest, discovering small crater lakes and a wide variety of birds (75 types), lemurs (8 types) and chameleons, the ring-tailed mongoose and the elusive fossa. The bird-watching enthusiasts will be enthralled here. Among the circuits available, the easiest and most popular one takes you to the enchanting waterfall of Cascade Sacree. This short yet immensely rewarding walk leads to a captivating waterfall cascading into a tranquil pool. If you're up for more waterfall explorations, there are two additional walks that culminate in cascading marvels. The Cascade Antankarana circuit offers an easy and relatively short trek, while the Cascade Antomboka trail presents a slightly more challenging terrain. There are also trails leading to the crater lakes, such as the picturesque Lac de la Coupe Verte, offering delightful views of the surrounding forest. To fully immerse yourself in the experience, a full-day excursion to Lac Grand and Lac Maudit is recommended. For those seeking a more exhilarating adventure, a climb to the summit of Amber Mountain itself promises a breath-taking panorama of the sprawling forest below.

After dark (around 18:00), take a guided night walk to spot nocturnal animals, just outside the national park entrance. The site is exceptionally rich in herpetofauna, so expect to see a variety of chameleons, geckoes (including at least 3 species of Uroplatus geckos) and frogs. You should also see Northern rufous mouse lemur and, in summer, the Greater dwarf lemur. After the walk, you will be transferred back to your hotel for dinner.
