Nosy Komba – Lemur Reserve - visit of Ampangorina village, Shopping, pirogue ride, Swimming and snorkeling in Ambarion’ ifasy

After 20-minute boat ride from Nosy Be, we arrive at Nosy Komba.

Nosy Komba is a beautiful volcanic island covered by dense tropical forest and surrounded by beautiful clear water. It is home to a multitude of animals and best known for its black lemurs. Other animals include chameleons, sea turtles, rays and dolphins. There are also 19 species of identified birds and 188 sorts of tropical flora as well as 70 of medicinal plants used locally as current remedies

Just past the village of Ampagorina, there is a secondary forest where visitors almost immediately find themselves surrounded by the famed black lemurs. These beautiful animals with black and velvety fur and by piercing orange eyes are so habituated to human contact that they will jump onto one's shoulders to eat bananas out of one's hands. They are not fenced in and they are close enough to provide some great photographic opportunities.

On Nosy Komba, we also visit the village of Ampangorina. Among the many artworks in the village, we find statues, masks, models, embroidered tablecloths, pareos and a variety of other interesting handicrafts which are unique to the island. After a bit of retail therapy at the markets we take pirogue or keep the boat and move to Ambarion’ ifasy. For those who would like to try pirogue ride experience can have that opportunity on this excursion.
